Festivals and Parades

Tattnall County celebrates sweet onions and Christmas, its people and the coming of fall with a number of annual festivals.

Tattnall County grows more than half of the entire state's Vidalia Sweet Onions crop each year according to the Georgia Department of Agriculture and the City of Glennville celebrates the harvest with the annual Glennville Sweet Onion Festival.

The festival is now in its 40th year of events, and sunny skies have have shone upon every just about every one. The festive day on the second Saturday of each May begins with a  sweet onion run and walk and a downtown parade. Then on to the State Farmers’ Market on Highway 301 South for an array of arts and crafts, delightful entertainment, children's rides and games, delectable food (that includes fried sweet onion rings and blooming onions). The event draws moe than  6,000 people each year.

The Wiregrass Festival sets up shop the last Saturday in September each year at the historic Tattnall County Courthouse Square in Reidsville at the corner of Hwys. 280 and 121, co-sponsored by the Greater Tattnall Chamber of Commerce and the Reidsville Lions Club. It kicks off with a fun run and 5k at 8 a.m. and a parade at 10:00 am. For more information call the Greater Tattnall Chamber of Commerce at 912-557-6323 or 912-288-1132.

The Collins Fall Festival is scheduled each October at the park in beautiful downtown Collins on Highway 121. Activities include delicious food and drinks, arts and crafts vendors and lots of children’s activities plus games for all ages. To rent a booth for the craft show, call Diane Singleton at 693-5511.

Tattnall County does Christmas right with a number of special festivals.

The Reidsville First Friday in November Christmas Open House kicks off the season with special events from 5 pm until 8 pm in retail shops in town. For information call Pam Waters at 912-654-2515.

The Reidsville Christmas Festival and Parade follows on the fourth Saturday in November with entertainers, food and arts and crafts vendors on the grounds of the Tattnall County Courthouse. Christmas Cobbtown Style is the first Saturday in December. For information call Cobbtown City Hall at 912-684-3448.
